How to get IHG employee discount rate?

Q. I work at Holiday Inn and I know we can get employee discount rates if they are available. How do you make a reservation and see what hotels offer the employee rate because the IHG website doesn't show any employee rate.

A. Go to the Merlin Website. At the top click on applications and scroll down and click on Employee Rates. :)

How do you get a corporate discount card for hotels?
Q. What sort of id is used to receive the discount rate for the self employeed person. Is there a card you can get (not a credit card) to receive this discount or do you just use your id/business cards?

A. To be honest, I have never had a hotel ask for any sort of ID. When checking in, (or making a reservation), I just stated that I am here on business.

If you travel alot, consider getting a AAA card. It allows you greater discounts, and I have used the roadside as well.

PS, should they require some sort of ID for a corporate rate, just show them a business card. That should do the trick as will.

Good Luck!!

How can I upgrade an already-purchased hotel room on Travelocity?
Q. We purchased a hotel room in New York about a month back on Travelocity. However, we will now have an additional traveler with us, and the room that we booked will not be big enough to accommodate him as well. Is it possible to upgrade that room through Travelocity, or should I call the hotel? Travelocity gave me a discounted rate on this room, and I am worried that, if I call the hotel, I will have to pay full fare to upgrade my room.

A. call the hotel directly and see what they will do for you. You can always keep the room that you have and have one sleep on the floor!

How old do you have to be to get a hotel in Boston?

Q. Can I get a hotel in Boston at 18? Or 21? Or older?

A. It depends on the hotel. Usually it's 21, but every hotel has their own age limits.

What is a hotel near boston with an 18 year old check in policy?
Q. I need a hotel near boston where i can check in at 18.

A. You're going to have to look in New Hampshire or Rhode Island. Massachusetts and Connecticut both have minimum ages of 21 to rent a hotel room by law.

is the intercontinental hotel in boston located in a safe area?
Q. I booked a hotel in boston on hotwire and got the intercontinental but I'm concerned about the location after I read a review saying it's in a not so nice area.

A. Intercontinental Boston is located in the financial district, it's right in the heart of downtown, I've walked past it dozens of times. The area is very safe. Just because one review says it is unsafe doesn't mean it actually is. Compared to other major US cities, Boston in general is a very safe city.

Any suggestions for posh hotels in Manhattan?

Q. I am looking for something along the lines of the 'W' and the Vandervoort Hotels... Something hip, quirky, and fun. Price is not really an issue, but creativity is! Thanks!

A. The Time and The Library hotels are both trendy and quirky. If you want something luxurious and a little more "old school" try The Pierre, the Sherry Netherland or the Peninsula. If you really want to splurge try The Carlyle on the Upper East Side.

If you do go with a "W", keep in mind that NYC has five of them: W New York, W Times Square, W Union Square, W Tuscany and W Court.

Need help with public transportation from Newark airport to NYC?
Q. Hello,
I will be staying at Econo Lodge near Newark airport. I am planning to go to NYC from Newark airport via train or bus (cheap transport - not cab).
Could you guys help me with public transportation from Newark airport to the following places
1) Times square
2) Statue of liberty
3) Rockefeller center, Central park

Also, I've heard that they charge $10 extra per person if you travel from Newark airport railroad; is that true?
Thanks!

A. My friend, if the hotel you're staying has a shuttle bus service, take the bus from the hotel to the North Elizabeth train station.

Once at the North Elizabeth train station, take any New York City-bound NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station.

Once in NYC, transfer to the New York City subway.

For Times Square, take the uptown (northbound) #1, 2 or 3 subway lines (Red Line) from Penn Station to Times Square.

For the Statue of Liberty, take the downtown (southbound) #1(Red Line) from Times Square to South Ferry. You can also take the downtown (southbound) "R" or "W" lines (Yellow Line) from Times Square to Whitehall Street - South Ferry.

Once at South Ferry, follow the directional signs to Castle Clinton and hop on the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.

You can also the take the Staten Island Ferry, from South Ferry to Staten Island. The ferry passes the Statue on it way to and from Staten Island. The ride on the ferry is free.

For the Rockefeller Center, take the uptown (northbound) "R" or "W" lines (Yellow Line) from Whitehall Street - South Ferry to 34th Street, where you can transfer to the uptown (northbound) "B", "D", "F" or "V" lines (Orange Line).

Take either line northbound from 34th Street to Rockefeller Center.

For Central Park, take the uptown (northbound) "B" or "D" lines (Orange Line) to 59th Street-Columbus Circle, or the uptown (northbound) "F" (Orange Line) to 57th Street. From either subway station, exit and walk to the park.

The fare on the subway is $2 each way, however if you in town for a day or a week, you can purchase a 1-day unlimted ride Fun Pass or a 7-day unlimited ride MetroCard. The 1-day unlimted ride Fun Pass cost $7.50 and the 7-day unlimited ride card cost $25.

A round trip off peak ticket on NJ tranist from North Elizabeth to New York Penn Station, cost $9.25.

I hope this information is very helpful.

Good luck and enjoy you trip

What variety of dim sum is this? or else can you give me all the 26 varieties of dimsum in Grand Opera Hotel?

Q. It's sweet just like desserts. It looks like a typical siopao. But instead of meat, there's somewhat like a sweet stuff. I ate this at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel. Thanks for your help.

A. Yes... that's just a sweet siopao (sweet bao or tiem bao). Typically, it's bean paste (dark) or lotus paste (light beige). Usually the sweet baos have a red dot on them so you know it's a sweet one instead of a savory one.

Where is the best, moderately priced hotel in the city of London?
Q. I am looking for a reasonably priced hotel in London, preferably around a tube or somewhere historic that won't break the bank! Also, anything "out of the ordinary" hotel would be great if anyone knows of any! Thanks!

A. I agree that the Club Quarters hotels are very good value, only problem is that you can't book them direct you have to find them on a travel provider such as those below:

http://www.expedia.co.uk
http://www.london.hotel-desk.net/
http://www.londontown.com

Search for "Club Quarters", "Gracechurch" or "St Pauls" and they should appear.

Alternatively, the Sleep Inn chain of hotels has recently opened one near Tower Hill which, as it's brand new, is great value for money and located well for the Tourist sites too. (http://www.choicehotelseurope.com/GB160)

What is a good moderatly priced hotel to stay at Waikiki?
Q. I am starting to plan a family vacation to Oahu in early January. I am looking for a good moderately priced hotel that is centrally located. Or, if there is a better area to stay in, I am open! Thanks!

A. Well, it's getting late to be planning a trip to Hawaii in January. And, you're unlikely to find anything "moderately priced" [depending on what you mean by that] at Waikiki in January. Personally, I'd look for a rental condo for a family - more space, more privacy, kitchen facilities so you can have some meals "in", etc.

Waikiki is IN the city of Honolulu. Do you want to stay in a city on a trip to Hawaii?? There are other, more beautiful places to stay on Oahu or on another island.

Go over to TripAdvisor.com and read the destination guide and browse through the forum for Waikiki. You can use their "sister" site, HomeAway.com, or VRBO.com to look for condos. Or, do a search on "Waikiki vacation rentals". You'll also need to consider renting a car if you want to go outside the Honolulu area.

Better hop right on this, ASAP - you don't have a lot of time!

Are there any good, moderately priced steakhouses in mid-town Manhattan?
Q. (around $150 for dinner for 2 w/ 1 cocktail each) If there aren't any, can someone please reccommend a cool restaurant near Park Central Hotel in that price range?

A. FYI - Peter Luger's is not in Manhattan - it's in Brooklyn...

I recommend Keen's Steakhouse, 72 W. 36th St., about 20 blocks away.
www.keens.com if you want to check them out.

I've also been to Nick & Stef's, near Madison Sq. Garden - 33rd St. and 8th Ave. Though I'd avoid it if there's a game or big concert at MSG that night.

The closest might be Ruth's Chris Steak House, 148 W. 51st St. Haven't been there, but they've got a good reputation.

Or Ben Benson's, 123 W. 52nd St.

How do I find a hotel room with an in-room jacuzzi / whirlpool?
Q. I want to bring my husband to a hotel within 2 hours of our city sometime next month (we live in Minneapolis). It has not been easy to search for hotels that have rooms with jacuzzis / whirlpools in the room. Is there some search engine that's efficient with this? So far I cannot find those details. Anyone know of any good place around my area? I'm so frustrated and I don't want to call every hotel ever.

A. Have you tried www.hotels.com ? Other than that all I can think of is to just call. I know you said you dont want to do that though. I would start with some of the upper class hotels. I know the Holiday Inn near me has jacuzzi rooms.

How do I boost PR when my site's content doesn't change much?
Q. The site is for a hotel. Not a lot changes other than packages and promotions. I know search engines look for quality content that is updated, however, I cant change much. What are some good tips or ideas on how to either circumvent the need for new content or a good way to generate content that will be relevant?

A. Bookmark your site url to social bookmarking sites like Digg,Twiiter etc. Submit articles to article directories. This will improve your site PR. Write unique quality content too
