How much would it cost to go to America for 2 weeks?
Q. I only want to know how much it costs for myself to go, since I am only paying for myself. I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I'd be going to Florida and i'm wondering what the overall cost would be on average?

A. It depends on where you go and when. Low season in much of Florida is winter because the primary attraction is the beach. The weather is usually too cool to swim in the ocean from about early October until sometime in April. A few places like Orlando don't have a low season so it costs what it costs.

For travel costs (airfare, hotel, rental car) check the travel sites (airgorilla, expedia, priceline, travelocity, etc.) and also check the airline websites. I have often (not always, but often) found the best airfares on the airline websites.

For example:

www.aa.com
www.delta.com
www.united.com

Check with a real travel agent to ask about promotional fares and special deals.

If you also need a hotel or rental car, check the cost of combining the purchases in a package.

Budget $75 per day per person for meals and incidental expenses. You may be able to get by on less but don't plan that way.

Every attraction has a website that lists entrace fees.

Citizens of about 35 countries can travel to the USA for up to 90 days at a time as a tourist or for some business purposes by registering for ESTA > before < their trip begins. The cost is US$14, which is similar to the fee for the Australian ETA program.

Registering is accomplished online, you don't need the details of your trip, and the confirmation is valid for multiple trips to the USA over two (2) years so don't wait until the last minute.

Print the confirmation - or at least record the number - and keep the information with your passport. Having a return or onward ticket leaving North America is a requirement, so have a copy of your airline itinerary at passport control.

Check with your health insurance to find out if it covers you in the USA and pays for medical evacuation to home. If yes then take proof of coverage with you. If no or not sure then get trip medical insurance, which is cheap and sold by airlines & travel agents. The USA has wonderful medical care but it isn't free or even cheap. Having travel medical insurance is a requirement to enter some countries. Even if it's not, please do not skimp on this as an otherwise-silly accident could turn into a crisis if you don't have medical insurance. This is a link from the US government, but the info is good for anyone traveling outside their home country:

If you are planning a long visit then DON'T schedule your departure day for the 90th day (any part of a day in the USA counts as a whole day, so if you arrive at 23:59h on the 1st and leave at 00:01h on the 10th it is 10 days in the USA). Schedule your departure not later than the 88th day as there are no (zero) provisions in the Visa Waiver Program for someone to voluntarily extend their stay. If you miss your flight due to something Immigration might consider avoidable (ex. flat tire on the way to the airport) they may ban you from using the VWP in the future.

How much money would someone need travel to the UK for 10 days?
Q. Not including air fare. How much would it cost one to go to ireland, and rent a car and go to scotland, and then to london. Including food, gas, tolls, hotel/b&b.

How much would be the minimum?

A. On travel alone, you are going to need several hundred pounds. You can rent compact cars for around £150 ($225) a week in the UK, but remember that our fuel is very expensive, currently selling for around £1.15 ($1.73).

The only way to travel from Ireland to the UK with a car would be to use the ferry. Irish Ferries can get you from Dublin, Ireland, to Holyhead, Wales. Alternatively, Stena Line can get you from Belfast, Northern Ireland, to Stranraer, Scotland. Both advertise fares of £89 ($134) each way for a car and one passenger. The distance by road from Holyhead to Edinburgh (the Scottish capital) is 316 miles. It's about 130 miles from Stranraer to Edinburgh. From there, the driving distance to London is a little over 400 miles. With petrol prices in mind, driving is going to be pretty costly.

Accommodation varies in price up and down the country, but you will always find something to suit your budget. Travelodge offer basic rooms for as little as £19 ($29) if you can book several weeks in advance. If you can't book up so soon, you can still secure a room at most locations for around twice that price. Remember that not all hotels will provide car parking, so don't forgot to check that out before booking up.

I think you would easily get by on £1,500 ($2,250) for car, fuel, accommodation and food. A cheaper way to see the country would be to fly everywhere. Domestic flights in the UK are very affordable and there is no shortage of airports to choose from, including London City, which is in the heart of London.
