How far is the Ahwahnee Dining Room from the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls?

Q. I am staying for one night at the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls. I was wondering how far the Ahwahnee Dining Room is? I will have my car and I would very much like to take my wife to brunch there.

A. It's better for everyone if you use the free shuttle buses in the park. Here's the bus map with stops: http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/upload/valleyshuttle.pdf

The Ahwahnee hotel is approximately 1.4 miles from Yosemite Lodge. Here's the Google Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=9006+Yosemite+Lodge+Drive,+Yosemite,+CA+95389+(Yosemite+Lodge+at+the+Falls)&daddr=Ahwahnee+Dr,+Yosemite+National+Park,+Mariposa,+California+95389&hl=en&geocode=FYHtPwIdehXf-CHHxpV1H_ESSQ%3BFRf-PwId9Vzf-ClDxwXmIfKWgDFlnFljUlmahg&mra=ls&sll=37.745947,-119.58777&sspn=0.021005,0.042529&ie=UTF8&ll=37.745981,-119.587963&spn=0.010503,0.021265&z=16

What would be a good hotel in Yosemite for 20-30 wedding guests?
Q. I'm thinking about getting married in Yosemite but after looking at park hotel photos I'm not sure which one would be the best. The Yosemite Falls Lodge seems to be more reasonably priced. Any other recommendations or reviews from people who have stayed at a Yosemite hotel? Thanks!

A. Yosemite Falls Lodge is not where I'd have my wedding guests stay. It is older, run-down, and not esthetically pleasing. The Ahwahnee is by far the best, but very expensive! If you don't mind traveling 30 miles from Yosemite valley to the south end of the park, Tenaya Lodge is a beautiful place to stay and more reasonably priced than The Ahwahnee. We've stayed there and thought it was great. It was clean, had a lovely setting, and served a great breakfast buffet.

How do I plan my first vacation to Yosemite with girlfriend?
Q. I'd love your suggestions for a first vacation to Yosemite with girlfriend (for 3-4 days during spring break). If you could recommend any spots, activities, special things happening locally, that'd be awesome. Unfortunately, I don't know much about planning it either so I could use tips on basic stuff too.

We'll be driving about 4-5 hours to get there, hopefully stay at a nearby hotel/inn, and if knowing our age helps, we're in our late 20s... Thanks!!

A. Lodging fills up months in advance! Depending on how much of an "outdoorsy" type you and your gf are, I would recommend getting a backpackers permit and camping. If you must have a room you can get a place in Yosemite Valley (maybe), or just outside the park in Fish Camp (it's a town 2 miles south of the gate on hwy 41) or at the Tenya Lodge.
Stuff to do: Climb Half Dome! Hike the Falls. Take a guided photography tour of the Valley. Depending on when you go, Badger Pass may still be open (it's a ski park in Yosemite). See the Ahwahnee Hotel/take a tour of it. Hike to Mirror Lake. The stables may be open when you go; if so you can go on a trail ride.
Yosemite is expensive, pack your own food. Don't eat at the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, it's gross. If you want a nice dinner, go to the Ahwahnee.
If you are getting there via hwy 41, stop in Oakhurst and get Pizza Factory pizza!
