How do I get big discounts for hotels in Los Angeles area?

Q. We are planning a trip to Los Angeles. We want to stay at Santa Monica, but the hotel prices are way too pricey. We may stay in Los Angeles, not sure yet. Depends on hotels. I hear all of the time that there are ways to get big discounts, but I don't know how to do that.

A. Triple A is usually the common discount if you're a member.

As far as big discounts, if you're a big traveler you might want to look into becoming a Leisure Travel Consultant. You get great LTC rates on hotels, resorts, cruises, rental cars, etc. As well as make commissions from any sales you make.

If you don't like the idea of being an LTC, you could check out becoming a Dreamtrips member. Hands down they offer the best deals on luxury hotels, resorts, and trips i've ever seen. They're pretty unbelievable. I was sold as soon as I looked at what they had to offer and they keep adding more. With Dreamtrips the deals are for you and a guest/spouse and often includes the kids too. Definitely worth looking into.

Hope this helped.

Can you throw a hot bachelor party in a good hotel?
Q. Throwing an R rated bachelor party, but am afraid the party will get cut short by the hotel staff. Has anyone ever done this in Los Angeles? What hotels can offer "discretion"?

A. The Embassy Suites . Plus they have free Cocktails for you and a few guest for 2 hrs and they have Great Drinks and there pretty good about having party's just as long as you respect the others staying at the hotel. Also they provide a free cooked to order breakfast in the morning .We have had so many party's at the Embassy Suites its known as the Party Hotel and the rooms are suites go online and check them out you can have most of the guest stay if they had to much to drink and be comfortable. Also if your a AAA member you get a nice discounted rate . Good Luck :)

Why does tap water in America smell strange?
Q. Everywhere I go in the states the tap water smells quite vile. Almost like swimming pool water. This includes Miami, New York and Los Angeles - hotels, peoples houses, everywhere.

This is compared to water in london, which just tastes like (quite hard) spring water. I can drink tap water back home, but not here in america, because it smells so bad.

Why?

A. Most of the water in the US is chemically treated to make if safer for us. It's not unhealthful, though it may be unpleasant. It's better in the smaller towns, as their water isn't so treated as the water for big cities. Many folks out in the country even have their own wells, which can be untreated as long as the water is tested and found to be safe to drink.

I grew up in the desert southwest (in the USA) and was quite used to water that had chemicals and minerals in it. When I lived in Sweden, I had to get used to what was for me tasteless water. I can drink it either way. If you're here visiting, buy bottled water while you're here. If you're here to live for a few months or more, I'd advise you to get used to it. Drinking bottled water for too long isn't as good for your teeth. The tap water here has fluoride in it. If you do choose to drink bottled water for your entire stay here, it might also be a good idea to supplement your tooth-care routine with a fluoride rinse.
